Challenge Completed

Yeah, Yeah, Halloween was a month ago and I still haven’t followed up my previous post, my bad. Last night something monumental happened on How I Met Your Mother….the return of….WAIT-FOR-IT…..ROBIN SPARKLES!!!!! Unfortunately there was no hidden music video or crazy kids TV show this time but still it’s always good to see her return. In perfect timing too, HIMYM is finally starting to feel like itself again…more on that later in my mid-season finale reviews. In honor of this occassion I thought I would share my own version of the beloved Canadian pop star, and yes, many people knew who I was! YAY! See previous post for context!

How did I do it?

  • Light wash jean jacket from Forever 21
  • Yellow tutu like skirt from Forever 21
  • Black studded belt from Forever 21
  • Skin tight scoop neck 3/4 length T-shirt from H&M
  • Pink opaque capri tights from Target
  • Black “keds” like sneakers from Target
  • Lace cuffed socks from Target Kids (my favorite!)
  • Iron on paper for dark/thick fabric
  • Self stick on rhinestones of all shapes and sizes
  • Puff Pant and Glitter Fabric Spray Paint
  • Yard of white lace and thick white ribbon
  • Robin Sparkles fan buttons/pins courtesy of Etsy (check them out!)
  • All the plastic crazy 80s like jewelry I have collected over the years
  • Sleep in hair curlers, a ton of hair spray, and sparkle hair spray

So there you go….my creative side went a little wild with this one and I got way to into making it authentic but in my opinion if your gonna do it, DO IT RIGHT! *note the picture does not show the rhinestones and puff paint stars and sparkles very well. I am still finding loose sticky rhinestones attached to everything! My car, my purse, my bed…they are everywhere! (good to note if you are looking for something more permanent go with the iron ons, these work great for temp stuff i.e my project)

To show you where I pulled the ideas from- I did a mix of all of Robin Sparkles looks together…

On the topic of homemade halloween costumes, my friend and I braved Salem dressed as a strawberry and watermelon. Dresses are from H&M, rest was done with fabric and puff paint. I was kinda proud of sewing skills for this one….the stem was my favorite part.

There you have it my friends, gotta love the live of a recent grad. Isn’t it exciting!? Craft projects!!! Think what you want, you may not care about my halloween creations but I love reading other people’s ideas so I figured why not. Hope I got your mind ticking for you next theme party or even next halloween! Now that thats over with time to move on to Christmas!

Every Halloween I bring a spare costume…a second chance to make a first impression.

Every Halloween I bring a spare costume. In case I strike out with the hottest girl at the party. That way I have a second chance to make a first impression.- Barney Stinson

I have to go yet again with a Barney Stinson quote as a theme for this post, there are just so many! As Halloween fast approaches talk at the water cooler is all about that chance once a year to be someone completely different than yourself. Personally, I am the biggest wimp in the world and hate everything scary and gory but lovvvvveee to be creative and dress up. Having started a job 3 weeks ago, finding a Halloween costume for our work contest has been a thorn in my backside. I’m the new kid at school and don’t want to end up like Mitchell from Modern Family (Video here) not knowing what to expect from my colleagues. I first thought buying a costume online would be the easiest way to go about it. Only problem….Has anyone else realized how hard it is to buy a store bought costume that doesn’t look like a stripper costume? I have to admit, in college I definitely took advantage of my 100 pound skeleton of a body but now, forget it, no way!

GUYS, I thought of the best idea!!! At first I was completely kidding myself, saying it would be a “nerd alert” risk, then I decided I don’t care. I’m going to own it! I decided if only 1 person knows who I am, then my job is done. It’s perfect, I am so excited. I spent the day at Forever 21 trying to find the perfect outfit and accessaries, got the rest to decorate at JoAnn Fabrics. Wait until you see this masterpiece! Here’s a hint. Ok a big hint. I can finally live a day in a sitcom.

To pay tribute to my former self in the words of Barney Stinson. (Again)

You know what I love about Halloween? It’s the one night of the year chicks use to unleash their inner ho-bag.

I must say though, my costumes were home made and I am quite proud. Not so much of the fact I decided to embrace of the above philosophy.

There were others but I thought I would just share a few from the more recent years. What is everyone else planning? Share you’re pictures or put em on Pinterest. Some great ideas are up there. Isn’t Pinterest just the best! Life is de Bubbles.

30 Day Bucket List

Ok people so how is it April already? Where did time go? A year ago I was dreading life after college finishing up final projects and getting ready to leave that little protective bubble. Looking back, I guess it wasn’t as bad as I had suspected. Yes, I may still be living at home. Yes, I may be still unemployed. Yes, I very rarely see people my own age. Yes, I am still single. Yes, I may only have 4 followers and 660 views on this blog. Part of me feels as though I should be a total wreck right now but I have somehow kept calm. I am very fortunate to have a supportive family, a place to live without rent, and a beautiful dog that I can hug when I’m down. It came to my attention this week that 30 days from today, college graduates are going to be swarming the market looking for their first job. In fact many if not most have already started the preliminary work. So what have I done with my life? I would say a lot. My resume does not. So time to kick my butt into gear before more unemployed recent grads take over leaving me in the dust. I guess you could say I am about to kick the metaphorical career bucket. That may sound drastic and I know its not the end but it does mean that I cannot be as picky in my search anymore. So here’s my 30 Day Bucket List…Enjoy and join me if you feel so inclined for a challenge.

1) Start to get the hang of Photoshop CS5 (just downloaded the 30-day trial, sorry I don’t have $800)

2) Create awesome photos and projects in PS not only for my own satisfaction but to make this blog a little more fancy. Start/Finish my Ireland collage I have been trying to finish for the last 6 months. Steal Mom’s camera and try and capture as much of the first blossoms of spring. (its coming soon)

3) Truly get my room to a functional status so I’m not constantly spending time stuffing things in closets only to rip it out and waste a day trying to re-organize. Actually bring my bags and bags of stuff to Goodwill.

4) Get my obsession with the two T’s (TJMAXX and TARGET) under control or cage any other shopaholic tendencies.

5) Find some kind of income

6) Finally get my first car legally “MY CAR” (more on that story later)

7) Stop procrastinating and plop in the “Jillian Michael’s 6 Week 6 Pack DVD” (still in the plastic) Or you know just get off my ass and workout. Stop eating cupcakes.

8) Perfect my skills in excel!!!! This is a biggie…every job requires it. I have a good grasp but I do everything the long way and need to learn the ins and outs. Maybe find a class?

9) Finally perfect my day to day makeup routine. Find a good everyday eye look that works.

10) Chip away at all dept incurred by # 4, college interest that has built up due to deferred loans, and car payments (registration, title, plates, insurance).

It may be random, but so is my head. It’s only 30 days remember. That’s not that long to achieve some pretty lofty tasks. I’m sure others will come up as well. I’m open for suggestions. Give me some love in the comment section if you glanced at any of my blog and let me know how I can make it better.

Who says you need to be on project runway to design?

While going through pictures from one of my giant boxes of miscellaneous I came across a lot of memories of college. I was watching project runway when I came across a picture of my best friends and I getting ready to go to a theme party.  Sophomore year my roommate and I were very into going crazy with themes. My creative side went a little overboard when it came to creating an outfit for an ABC party aka Anything But Clothes. Of course this party was at an unheated house almost a mile walk away from our dorm on LITERALLY the coldest night of the winter with a low near -10 degrees. Not ideal for the theme, but we toughed it out…..or danced it out. The great part is my creation was so well crafted if I may say so myself that it held up well. I got to be honest, I was a little self conscious wearing an outfit like this but I did my best to make it “classy”.

Made out of wrapping paper, Cosmo magazine covers, tissue paper, ribbon  and a whole lot of clear packing tape.

If only I had a place to go where I could create more clothes. Those were fun days but I am completely ready to move on to bigger and better things and more sophisticated projects. More to come while I work though my bedroom redesign.
